Introduction to Building Control Research Using Computer Vision Technology

Building sector final energy consumption in Korea accounts for approximately 20% of the nation's total final energy consumption.
The government is actively supporting advanced research and development for building energy efficiency. Accordingly, research and development for applying the latest ICT (Information and Communications Technology) to buildings is being actively conducted.

The application of computer vision technology is a representative example. Computer vision technology's performance has been significantly improved with the development of deep learning in 2012, and is currently being applied to various industries such as automotive, manufacturing, and medical. In buildings, computer vision technology can detect information about occupants (for example, occupancy presence/absence, thermal comfort, etc.) and be utilized for efficiently operating heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. Through this, building energy can be saved and indoor environmental quality can be improved.
