1. Background for Technology Need
Need to overcome limitations of global shutter and rolling shutter
Existing image sensors support only one of either global shutter (simultaneous exposure across entire area) or rolling shutter (sequential line-by-line exposure), resulting in conflicting trade-offs for each approach
Difference in requirements between computer vision and human vision
Computer vision prioritizes fast motion capture without distortion, while natural image quality similar to human vision is also necessary
Extended dynamic range and low-light environment response
High-quality imagery and wide exposure range are essential across diverse fields including industrial, security, and automotive applications
Growing demand for simultaneous visible light and near-infrared (NIR) imaging
