Offering a wide range of UPS products for use in IT environments of various sizes
“As social demands for the stable operation of data centers increase, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that can provide uninterrupted power supply infrastructure even in emergency situations is necessary to manage AI data centers that are highly sensitive to electricity.”
Schneider Electric (Kim Kyung-rok, CEO of Korea), a global company leading the digital transformation in energy management and automation, emphasized the importance of more efficient power management for the stable operation of data centers with high power demand.
As artificial intelligence (AI) spreads worldwide, the demand for power in AI data centers that process high-performance calculations is also skyrocketing. Data centers, which consume so much power that they are called “power-hungry hippos,” can suffer from performance degradation and data loss if the power supply is interrupted, so the demand for 24/7 availability is increasing.
Accordingly, the need for an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to build an infrastructure for uninterrupted power supply even in emergency situations is also emerging. A UPS is a device that provides continuous backup power to IT and other major systems, and supplies power normally for a certain period of time to prevent problems caused by sudden power outages. According to the industry, the global data center UPS market size is expected to grow at a rate of 6.3% from 2021 to 2028, reaching approximately USD 5.89 billion (KRW 8.14 trillion) in 2028.
Schneider Electric emphasizes the importance of UPS for more stable power operation of data centers and is introducing various UPS product lines that can be used in various sized IT environments. The 'Galaxy V-Series UPS' suitable for data centers and industrial applications has an eConversion mode that provides up to 99% efficiency in high-efficiency operation mode and reduces UPS power consumption by more than 3 times. It is a high-efficiency modular expandable product that is easy to install and can be selected according to power and usage location, and is designed to meet important power requirements. It ensures stable power supply even under various power conditions.
The 'Easy UPS 3-Phase Modular' is a modular product that offers flexible configuration options and covers power capacities from 50kW to a maximum of 250kW N+1 for a single UPS configuration, and up to 1,000kW N+1 for a parallel UPS configuration. It can be operated at the rated capacity (power factor 1.0) in a temperature environment up to 40°C, and its compact size allows for an optimized installation space, so it can be integrated into various IT environments such as commercial facilities such as hospitals and banks, as well as small and medium-sized data centers.
Additionally, Schneider Electric's 'APC Smart-UPS with Lithium-ion' is an effective solution that can be used with edge infrastructure to increase infrastructure availability. It features the latest lithium-ion battery technology, providing a long life and fast charging time, and is particularly suitable for data centers and IT infrastructure where energy efficiency is important. The wide input voltage range reduces unnecessary battery use, maximizes battery performance, and saves space due to its light weight.
“At a time when the expansion of the power supply network is more urgent than ever due to the expansion of the AI market, the social demand and concerns about the stable operation of data centers are greater than ever,” said Choi Sung-hwan, head of the Secure Power division at Schneider Electric Korea. “Schneider Electric’s UPS will further evolve to respond to digital innovations such as AI while maximizing energy and process efficiency and minimizing carbon dioxide.”
