Carbon Accounting Solution 'SAP Green Ledger' Launched
SAP helps you achieve sustainability goals by integrating financial data and carbon emissions.
SAP announced on the 23rd that it has officially launched 'SAP Green Ledger', a comprehensive carbon accounting solution that directly integrates with customers' financial data, worldwide.
As part of SAP Sustainability solutions, this solution assigns carbon emissions to economic activities and transactions recorded by SAP ERP solutions, enabling companies to accurately measure, analyze, and report their carbon footprint across products, services, and organizational units.
SAP Green Ledger helps companies track the financial impact of their carbon footprint, optimize finances and reduce carbon emissions, set carbon neutrality and net zero goals, prepare for sustainability audits, and improve processes to reduce carbon emissions in their supply chains.
This enables companies to make sustainable decisions by linking their environmental impact with financial performance.
SAP Green Ledger builds on SAP’s existing financial and ERP solutions used by thousands of businesses and helps them improve compliance, efficiency, and transparency.
“Reducing carbon emissions requires massive investment, and trusted data is essential to do so,” said Dominik Asam, SAP CFO. “SAP Green Ledger provides the ability to prevent free-riding and greenwashing, protect invested assets, and help protect the planet.”
SAP Green Ledger integrates financial and environmental data to help businesses respond effectively to complex global sustainability regulatory landscapes such as the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS), and the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
This is expected to open a new era for carbon accounting systems and have a significant impact on companies around the world as decarbonization becomes a legal obligation and market imperative.
SAP Green Ledger was developed in collaboration with global companies such as Accenture, Deloitte, EY, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
Pilot customer Covestro is testing carbon dioxide emissions in its supply chain in conjunction with SAP Green Ledger.
“SAP Green Ledger provides sustainability metrics and insights that can help reduce carbon emissions and drive operational efficiencies,” said Stephanie Jamison, head of Accenture’s global resources and sustainability services. “Accenture is working with SAP to help clients achieve both sustainability goals and business outcomes.”
“SAP Green Ledger brings new precision to tracking, managing and reporting greenhouse gas emissions and provides a holistic view into the costs and benefits of sustainability initiatives,” said Jennifer Steinmann, Deloitte Global Sustainability Business Leader.
TCS is also collaborating with SAP on the development of green ledgers, said Vikram Karakoti, Global Head of Enterprise Solutions at TCS.“Lean Leisure enables companies to use sustainability as a driving force for growth,” he emphasized.
