Emotus Adoption, Development of Next-Generation E-Drive Series in 5 Years
Emotors has developed a next-generation series of e-drives ranging from 25kW to 250kW in just five years using Siemens’ Simcenter solution, demonstrating that Siemens’ Simcenter solution can accelerate development and shorten the return on investment in electric vehicle development.
Siemens Digital Industries Software today announced that e-drive manufacturer Emotors is leveraging test solutions from the Siemens Xcelerator industrial software portfolio to continue developing and improving electric drive systems for hybrid, plug-in and fully electric vehicles (EVs).
eMotors, an independent e-drive manufacturer, is headquartered in Carrieres-sous-Poissy, France and was founded in 2018 as a joint venture between Stellantis and Nidec Leroy-Somer.
eMotors has developed a range of next-generation e-drives for Stellantis brands including Peugeot, Opel, DS Automobile and Jeep.
“The core of our knowledge is in the development of a solution for electric vehicle customers,” said Cedric Plasse, CTO of Emotors. “The ability to design next-generation e-drives, build prototypes, and then produce them in large quantities is what platform development, a strategy that is very well known in the automotive industry, helps us to be competitive here. We design a lot of things digitally, but digital models alone cannot do everything. To shorten the time to market and increase accuracy, we need to calibrate the models with test measurement data. When our NVH test engineers benchmarked all the tools on the market, they quickly realized that Siemens’ tools were the best.”
One of the many challenges facing eMotors is meeting stringent and changing customer specifications, particularly in the area of Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH) acoustics when designing a completely new range of sounds for electric vehicles, electric drivetrains and e-drives.
These include tailored indoor and outdoor soundscapes, a driving experience that ensures exceptional ‘quietness’, pedestrian warning systems (PWS) or acoustic vehicle alerting systems (AVAS).
Emotus is using a variety of solutions from Siemens to solve these problems. It includes Simcenter™ Testlab™ software for test-based engineering, which combines high-speed data acquisition capabilities with integrated test, analysis, and modeling tools.
Additionally, Simcenter™ SCADAS™ hardware for acoustics, vibration, and durability engineering is utilized, providing a comprehensive test data acquisition solution for multiphysics measurements.
Additionally, we utilize a comprehensive range of innovative acoustic and vibration excitation systems designed to measure structural, vibration-acoustic and frequency response functions.
“We perform classical experimental modal analysis in Simcenter Testlab to meet our customers’ NVH requirements,” said Bonaventure Ndong Gumedzoe, NVH Test Manager at Emotus. “We extract modal parameters such as frequency, modal shape and damping and provide this information to our simulation team to confidently predict the NVH behavior of Emotus products. Simcenter test solutions help us easily perform the main tasks step by step, from channel setup to final measurement analysis.”
“When I talk to the NVH team, they say that Siemens’ support is very professional and well-communicated,” says Cédric Plasset, CTO of eMotors. “We plan to use Siemens tools in all areas. This will allow for more people to communicate more smoothly, both in simulation and in testing. This is a great driver for improving communication. We will actively leverage the successful cooperation between Siemens and eMotors as we bring new motors to market in the future.”
