Keysight automated test system and Saesoltech SCMS utilization
Keysight Technologies, together with Saesoltech, has contributed to providing innovative automotive certificate management technology and a safe V2X solution.
Keysight Technologies and Saesoltech have successfully completed a proof of concept (PoC) for innovative management of automotive certificates.
This PoC focuses on addressing scenarios where certificate expiration and mass renewals can disrupt V2X communications.
As the automotive industry evolves, secure communications become essential to success.
Integrated computer systems offer a variety of cutting-edge features, and manufacturers must ensure that these technologies meet regulatory compliance and security requirements.
One of the key challenges of V2X (vehicle-to-everything) communication is managing digital certificates.
Certificates are essential to maintaining data integrity and trust, but they have complexities such as overlapping lifetimes and expiration periods.
Failure to manage this effectively can lead to update delays, interoperability issues, and even complete communication failures.
“Advancements in V2X technology are driving security challenges,” said Thomas Goetzl, vice president of Keysight’s Automotive and Energy Solutions business.“It depends on addressing the standards and edge case scenarios of the new technology,” he explained. “Manufacturers must be able to meet reliability and security requirements.”
This requires rigorous testing and management processes during the research and development process.
The tests were conducted using Keysight’s automated test system and Saesoltech’s SCMS, which are compliant with the IEEE 1609.2.1 standard.
Unlike previous tests, we conducted tests with the same configuration as the actual production environment, and simulated certificate expiration that occurs after 10 years, enabling us to perform edge case testing within a realistic period of time.
The PoC results successfully evaluated a method to manage certificate transition without interrupting V2X operations.
Mitigate risks associated with unexpected certificate expiration and verify smooth transitions between duplicate certificates.
This ensures uninterrupted communication between vehicles and infrastructure, even in challenging edge case scenarios.
Improved reliability and scalability of certificate management minimizes operational risk, reduces reliance on costly manual intervention, and prevents potential vehicle recalls.
These innovations enhance V2X security and provide manufacturers with a robust framework to meet the industry’s evolving requirements.
“This PoC highlights the need for rigorous testing of certificate management scenarios that are often overlooked during development; addressing these edge cases upfront will not only ensure uninterrupted V2X services, but also reduce maintenance costs,” said Junwoo Kim, CTO and Managing Director of Saesoltech.
