GM Named 'Supplier of the Year'
LG Electronics (CEO Joo-wan Cho) has been recognized by global automobile manufacturer General Motors Co. for its creativity and technological prowess in leading innovation in in-vehicle customer experience.
LG Electronics was recently selected as the 'Best Creativity Team Award' at GM's '33rd Annual Supplier of the Year Awards' held in Arizona, USA. This is a credit for redefining in-vehicle entertainment and connectivity by providing innovative battlefield component solutions.
Every year, GM evaluates the performance of suppliers in the areas of purchasing, engineering, quality, manufacturing, and logistics, and selects the company that has contributed to realizing GM's business performance as well as its core values and vision as the 'Supplier of the Year.'
LG Electronics has been recognized for the innovation and excellence of its electronic component solutions, having been selected as 'Supplier of the Year' a total of seven times from 2014 to this year, including winning the 'Overdrive Award' in 2016, 2022, and 2023, which is given to suppliers who have contributed to creating performance with excellent quality in terms of global purchasing and supply chain operations.
In relation to customer management and A/S parts supply, it has also received the 'On Time Shipping (OTS) Award' for three consecutive years since 2023. LG Electronics achieved a 99% on-time supply rate for service parts supplied to GM North America and received the Gold Award in March. This is the second time since 2023. Last year, it was awarded the Platinum Award for achieving a 100% on-time supply rate of parts for GM Korea and Brazil.
LG Electronics is actively responding to the market and customer needs toward the transition to Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs) by accelerating the advancement of products and technologies across all major electrical component areas, including in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), telematics, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), regardless of hardware or software.
Through this, it has also established itself as a leading company in the telematics (vehicle communication module) sector, which is a core component of SDV. According to its own estimate based on data released by market research firm Strategy Analytics, LG Electronics ranked first globally in the telematics market last year with a 24.4% share.
LG is leading the digital transformation of the automobile industry with its differentiated solution for SDV conversion, 'LG αWare'. LG Alphaware consists of PlayWare, an in-vehicle entertainment solution; MetaWare, which provides drivers with useful information and highly immersive in-vehicle experiences using AR/MR and AI technologies; and VisionWare, which analyzes the behavior of drivers and passengers using AI algorithms and camera sensors as ADAS to prevent accidents and assist driving.
LG Electronics is also realizing its vision of future mobility that turns vehicles into “living spaces on wheels” by being the first to apply its automotive webOS content platform (Automotive Content Platform, ACP) to commercial electric vehicles. LG Electronics' proprietary smart TV platform webOS has expanded the various customer experiences provided to the vehicle interior, providing customers with a more differentiated mobility experience through various premium content such as LG Channel.
LG Electronics VS (Vehicle Solution) Business Division Vice President Eun Seok-hyun said, “This award is a testament to our continuous efforts to develop innovative automotive solutions and ensure stable supply,” and added, “We will strengthen our partnerships with customers with integrated mobility solutions that encompass hardware and software.”
