Intel Fab 34 Production Begins, Intel 4 Technology Products in Volume Production
Intel 3-based Xeon stepping stone scheduled for release in 2024
It has been reported that Intel's Fab 34 in Ireland, in which 17 billion euros were invested, has begun mass production of products based on EUV technology.
Intel announced on the 4th that it has introduced Intel4 technology using extreme ultraviolet (EUV) technology to its European factories.
As the first use case of EUV for high-volume manufacturing (HVM) in Europe, the introduction of Intel 4 is expected to be a stepping stone for next-generation products, including the Intel Core Ultra processor (codenamed Meteor Lake), which will form the basis for future AI PCs, as well as Intel 3-based Xeon processors scheduled for release in 2024.
The EUV technology used in Intel 4 production is widely adopted primarily at leading-edge semiconductor technology nodes and supports the most demanding computing applications such as artificial intelligence, advanced mobile networks, autonomous driving, data centers, and cloud applications.
“I am proud of our employees, our customers, suppliers and partners who have worked with us to restore our leadership in process technology,” said Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger. “Ireland, the Silicon Isle, has always been a place for Intel.”“Fab 34 has been a key part of the EU’s strategy to create a more resilient and sustainable semiconductor supply chain,” he said.

Fab 34 in Lakeslip, Ireland, will help create a cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing value chain that is the first of its kind in Europe, alongside Intel’s planned wafer fabrication facility in Magdeburg, Germany, and an assembly and test facility planned for Wrocław, Poland.
“Ireland is the center of Intel’s global manufacturing base and a cornerstone of our leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing value chain in Europe,” said Keyvan Esfarjani, Intel senior vice president and chief global operating officer, adding that the company is investing a total of €17 billion to build Fab 34 in Ireland.
Process development and initial production work for Intel 4 technology, which delivers significant improvements in performance, power efficiency, and transistor density over previous technologies, took place at Intel’s development fab in Oregon.
Meanwhile, Intel is expanding its business while minimizing its impact on the environment. Intel also announced its Ireland Climate Action Plan on the same day, outlining its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy and water use, and landfill waste.
