Onsemi Selected as Key Supplier of Power System Solutions Based on EliteSiC M3e Platform
Onsemi and Volkswagen Group Sign Multi-Year Agreement...Supplying Solutions for Multiple Vehicle Lineups Onsemi has become a key supplier of power box solutions for the next generation of traction inverters for the Volkswagen Group’s Scalable Systems Platform (SSP).
Onsemi announced on the 23rd that it has signed a multi-year contract with the Volkswagen Group.
The solution features SiC-based technology in integrated modules that are scalable across all power stages, from high-power to low-power traction inverters, to ensure compatibility with all vehicle types.
“ON Semiconductor is enabling the Volkswagen Group to maximize efficiency and performance across their vehicle lineup by providing a complete power system solution encompassing all power sub-assemblies, while providing a simplified, single, modular, scalable platform,” said Hassane El-Khoury, CEO of ON Semi. “This new approach allows them to tailor the power needs of different vehicles, add features and reduce cost without compromising performance.”
Onsemi's power box solution is based on EliteSiC M3e MOSFETs, which enable more power to be processed in a smaller package, significantly reducing energy losses.
3 mounted on cooling channels Including integrated half-bridge modules can further improve system efficiency by effectively managing heat from the semiconductor to the cooling case.
This leads to improved performance, better thermal control and greater efficiency, allowing electric vehicles to travel farther on a single charge.
This integrated solution is expected to enable the Volkswagen Group to easily transition to future EliteSiC-based platforms and remain at the forefront of electric vehicle innovation.
“ONSemi offers a flexible supply concept with regional SiC fabs across Asia, Europe and the U.S.,” said Til von Bothmer, Senior Vice President Powertrain Purchasing for the Volkswagen Group. “ONSemi will continue to supply the latest SiC generations to enable us to remain competitive.”
Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Group is expected to benefit from OnSemi's Czech investment plans to expand its SiC manufacturing.
Onsemi's investment in the Czech Republic creates an end-to-end production facility for traction inverter power systems in Europe.
The proximity to the Onsemi facility is expected to strengthen the Volkswagen Group's supply chain while improving logistics and enabling faster integration into manufacturing processes.
