Lam Research Manufacturing Korea President Lee Che-soo was recognized for his contributions to strengthening the competitiveness and ecosystem of the domestic semiconductor industry during his 33 years of service at the semiconductor company.

Lam Research Manufacturing Korea CEO Lee Che-soo received the Prime Minister's Award at the 17th Semiconductor Day ceremony on the 22nd for his contribution to the development of the semiconductor industry.

The Korea Semiconductor Industry Association has established Semiconductor Day since 2008 to promote the advancement of the semiconductor industry, which is Korea's number one export industry and has driven economic development, and has been awarding awards every year to those who have made significant contributions to strengthening industrial competitiveness.

As the head of Lam Research Manufacturing Korea, Lam Research’s global semiconductor equipment production base, President Lee Cheol-soo has been selected as the 2024 recipient of the Semiconductor Industry Development Award in recognition of his contributions to strengthening the global competitiveness of Korean semiconductor manufacturers and the ecosystem through domestic investment, job creation, expansion of local production of parts and equipment, and expansion of infrastructure.

President Lee, who majored in electrical engineering, joined Samsung Electronics in 1991 and has worked in the semiconductor industry for approximately 33 years. He joined Lam Research in 2007 and served as the President of Lam Research Manufacturing Korea in 2011, where he demonstrated outstanding leadership in collaboration with customers and partners, increasing productivity, and improving the employment environment.

In particular, based on the construction of Lam Research Manufacturing Korea's third plant, the 'Hwaseong Plant' in August 2021, the company has doubled its domestic production capacity. During this period, Lam Research Manufacturing Korea's sales also more than doubled from KRW 447 billion in fiscal year 2021 to KRW 1.211 trillion in 2024. In addition, in May 2023, the company achieved shipment of its 10,000th domestic semiconductor production equipment.

In order to localize domestic components, we have been discovering key partners since 2011 and have achieved localization of components. We have also increased domestic semiconductor equipment production by more than 18 times over the past 12 years, establishing ourselves as the largest semiconductor front-end equipment production and export company in Korea.

Lam Research Manufacturing Korea is also leading the way in job creation and improving the work environment, having been selected as the ‘Best Company for Jobs in Korea (2015, 2022)’, the ‘Excellent Company for Workplace Innovation (2020)’ by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and the ‘Excellent Company for Family-Friendly Workplace (2020, 2023)’ by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.

President Lee Cheol-soo said, “It is a great honor to be recognized for our efforts to develop the domestic semiconductor industry ecosystem,” and added, “We will continue to strengthen cooperation with domestic partners and strive for semiconductor technology innovation.”

The 17th Semiconductor Day Commemoration Ceremony was held at the Grand InterContinental Hotel Seoul Parnas.
