3D V-Cache-based desktop processor expansion
AMD announced today the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D desktop processor based on the 'Zen 5' architecture that delivers improved gaming performance.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor features a cutting-edge on-chip memory solution redesigned with 2nd generation AMD 3D V-Cache™ technology. This chip is the first new product to be unveiled utilizing 2nd generation 3D V-Cache technology.
To lower the temperature of the Zen 5 cores and increase clock speeds, the 64MB of cache memory has been relocated below the processor, allowing the Core Complex Die (CCD) to be placed closer to the cooling solution.
This is claimed to improve gaming performance by up to 8% on average compared to AMD's previous generation processors, and provide up to 20% faster speeds than competing products. This product is the first X3D processor to offer overclocking performance through layout changes, allowing professionals and gamers to experience a whole new level of performance.
The average FPS is up about 8% over the previous generation, but it boasts double-digit performance gains over the previous generation in a variety of games, including Star Wars Outlaws.
Additionally, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor offers a smooth gaming experience with a significantly improved minimum frame rate while maintaining a similar average frame rate to the previous generation. For example, in The Last Of Us: Part 1, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is said to have a similar average frame rate to the competition, but 31% higher performance in 1% low frame rates.
The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a PC gaming solution that can handle gaming and productivity tasks with eight high-performance Zen 5 processor cores and 16 processing threads. It boasts the highest clock speed among the X3D chiplets with a base clock speed of 4.7GHz and a maximum boost clock of 5.2GHz.
It offers a TDP of 120W and a large cache of up to 104MB to ensure that the processor can perform the tasks required.
“AMD continues to push the boundaries of performance and innovation in desktop computing, delivering solutions that exceed the demands of gamers and creators,” said Jack Huynh, corporate vice president and general manager, Compute and Graphics Business Unit, AMD. “With the launch of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor based on our advanced Zen 5 architecture, gamers can experience enhanced gaming performance.”
