Real-time, delay-free management and processing of vehicle and industrial applications

Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Seung-Soo Lee)'s automotive MCU supports a real-time operating system (RTOS), enabling automotive and industrial applications to be managed and processed in a timely manner without real-time delay.

Infineon announced today that it has added FreeRTOS support to its AURIX™ TC3x microcontrollers (MCUs).

A real-time operating system (RTOS) is a core software component that runs on a microcontroller and efficiently manages hardware and software resources to ensure that tasks are executed reliably and in a timely manner.

Acting as an intermediary between hardware and application software, an RTOS allows developers to ignore the complexities of the hardware and focus on their application code.

This ensures portability and reusability of application code at different levels of abstraction, reducing time to market.

FreeRTOS is a free, open source RTOS that has been widely used for over 20 years.

Currently, it is actively supported and developed by AWS (Amazon Web Services).

Additionally, AWS provides a set of middleware libraries for FreeRTOS that allow easy integration with AWS services.

Head of Product Management and Marketing for Automotive Microcontroller Software at Infineon “Support for FreeRTOS enables customers to quickly build applications in a stable and feature-rich open source environment,” said Patrick Will. “This integration facilitates rapid feature evaluation on the AURIX TC3x and provides a fast migration path for non-AUTOSAR projects, especially for customers in the automotive and industrial markets.”

Infineon's AURIX TC3x MCUs have been developed to be ASIL-D/SIL-3 compliant, meeting the stringent requirements of the automotive and industrial markets.

Powered by the high-performance TriCore™ architecture, it provides real-time capabilities, advanced safety features, and functional reliability, making it ideal for demanding applications.
