“Implementing next-generation automotive system reliability and energy efficiency”

Microchip Technology Inc. today announced that it has achieved AEC-Q100 qualification for its PolarFire® system-on-chip (SoC) FPGAs.

The AEC-Q standard is an integrated circuit (IC) guideline that measures the reliability of automotive electronic components through stress tests. PolarFire SoC FPGAs that are AEC-Q100 qualified have undergone rigorous testing to demonstrate that they operate reliably over the automotive Grade 1 temperature range (-40°C to 125°C).

This SoC FPGA features a 64-bit quad-core RISC-V® architecture capable of running Linux and real-time operating systems (RTOS) and provides up to 500,000 logic elements (LEs) of programmable logic.

Microchip emphasized that PolarFire SoC FPGAs are suitable for complex automotive applications that require low power, high performance, excellent reliability and wide operating temperature range. It also integrates embedded security and safety features to help mitigate the risks of data corruption and system failure and improve reliability, he added.

PolarFire FPGAs and SoCs can operate without active cooling and offer high integration, defense-grade security, and high reliability, the company said.

“The AEC-Q100 qualification of our PolarFire SoC FPGAs demonstrates Microchip’s ability to operate in extreme environments,” said Bruce Bayer, vice president of Microchip. “The low-power design and RISC-V core will enable automotive engineers to implement highly reliable and energy-efficient solutions for next-generation automotive systems.”

Meanwhile, PolarFire SoCs are supported by Microchip’s Libero® SoC Design Suite, SmartHLS™, VectorBlox™ and Mi-V partner ecosystem, which leverages a variety of intellectual property (IP) cores to accelerate time to market.
