Applied Materials Korea (CEO Park Kwang-sun) has supported science classes for elementary school students for five consecutive years, taking the lead in fostering semiconductor industry talent and contributing to the local community.
Applied signed a business agreement (MOU) with the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation on the 18th and will sponsor the 'Science Class with Applied' for the fifth consecutive year.
This program will be conducted in 25 local children's centers in the southern Gyeonggi region, providing hands-on science education to approximately 350 elementary school students.
'Science Class with Applied' is a program based on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education. It is conducted during the summer vacation period for elementary school students in the southern Gyeonggi region, including Seongnam, Icheon, Hwaseong, and Pyeongtaek.
This year in particular, hands-on education will be provided using the ‘Semiconductor STEAM Kit’, which allows students to experience the semiconductor process. This allows students to experience first-hand how semiconductor technology is used in everyday life, while also providing playful learning opportunities that foster creative thinking skills.
In addition, Applied Materials Korea executives and employees will directly participate and serve as assistant instructors to help children practice and easily understand scientific concepts.
Park Kwang-sun, CEO of Applied Materials Korea, said, “Talent is at the center of the semiconductor industry,” and added, “We want to work with the local community by making future innovative technologies possible while expanding opportunities for quality science education.”
Additionally, CEO Park emphasized that the goal is to provide children and educators with opportunities to foster critical thinking and creativity through STEAM education, thereby contributing to the development of next-generation talent.
Applied Materials supports STEAM education in several Asian countries, including Korea, China, India, Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan.
In China, the 'Walk Along the Silk Road' project provides popular science books and DIY kits, contributing to improving children's scientific thinking skills.
In India, an educational program is being run to provide rural children with access to science.
In Japan, STEAM programs centered on programming education are being run to help children develop their thinking skills.
In Singapore, we offer a hybrid STEAM education that combines art, design and digital fabrication.
In Taiwan, the Semiconductor Explorers program provides children with hands-on opportunities to learn core semiconductor process concepts.
In Korea, there is not only ‘Science Classroom with Applied’Science-based experiential activities and learning kits covering AI, self-driving cars, smart homes, etc. are being developed.
Applied Materials Korea supports various social contribution activities such as ‘Traditional Culture Classroom’ and ‘Guardians of Our Rivers’ in addition to science classrooms.
The company said it will continue to provide ongoing educational support in cooperation with the local community and that these activities will play an important role in fostering the next generation of science and technology talent.
