Includes ATMXT3072M1 and ATMXT2496M1 single-chip touchscreen controllers
Microchip supports large and diverse-shaped automotive displays with a new controller that enables reliable and stable touch functionality in automotive displays including OLED and microLED technologies.
Microchip Technology Inc. recently announced that it has expanded its maXTouch® M1 generation family to support automotive displays.
It includes the ATMXT3072M1 and ATMXT2496M1 single-chip touchscreen controllers, providing vehicle manufacturers with a reliable touch sensor solution.
The ATMXT3072M1 and ATMXT2496M1 touchscreen controllers provide up to 112 reconfigurable touch channels, or an equivalent 162 touch channels in ultrawide mode.
This enables reliable touch sensing on large, curved, and free-form displays up to 20 inches in 16:9 ratio and up to 34 inches in 7:1 ratio.
These devices incorporate Microchip’s proprietary smart interactive touch recognition method and algorithms to improve touch signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by up to +15 dB.
This provides reliable touch functionality even in very thin, large displays, combined with high capacitance loads and strong display noise.
/> The ATMXT3072M1 and ATMXT2496M1 controllers are designed to be compliant with ASIL-A and B standards and are based on Microchip’s ISO26262 Functional Safety Management System, which is certified by international certification authority TÜV Rheinland.
We provide FMEDA (Failure Mode Effects and Diagnostic Analysis) and safety manuals to help customers obtain touch function certification of their systems more efficiently and cost-effectively.
The firmware can be upgraded through the vehicle's main computer system and verified using an integrated firmware authentication function implementing the SHA-512 cryptographic hash function.
Microchip’s Knob-on-Display™ (KoD™) technology adds an intuitive physical dial to a touchscreen, improving safety while maintaining the sleek look of modern automotive displays.
The new maXTouch M1 generation touchscreen controller implements ultra-low latency haptic controls to help reduce driver distraction.
“Microchip’s ATMXT3072M1 and ATMXT2496M1 touchscreen controllers provide fast, reliable touch performance, enabling automakers to design innovative, user-friendly interfaces that enhance both the driving experience and vehicle safety,” said Patrick Johnson, senior vice president of Microchip’s Human Machine Interface business unit.
Euro NCAP tests in 2026 are likely to recommend that vehicle manufacturers fit physical controls for basic functions.
Microchip’s touchscreen controller solution meets these requirements and also enables over-the-air (OTA) updates compliant with the ISO 21434:2021 standard.
