Strengthening mutual cooperation in advanced industrial joint research
The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI, President Shin Hee-dong) is expanding the K-battery ecosystem through collaboration with an American innovative company in the next-generation battery field.
KETI announced on the 17th that it signed a multilateral business agreement with the Korea Institute of Technology Evaluation and Planning (President Jeon Yun-jong, KEIT) and the American solid-state battery company Solid Power Inc. (CEO John Van Scoter) on the 16th (local time) in San Francisco, USA to strengthen global R&D cooperation in the next-generation battery field.
Through this business agreement, the participating organizations agreed to strengthen mutual cooperation by promoting joint research cooperation in cutting-edge industries such as next-generation batteries.
KETI is concentrating its research capabilities in the ultra-gap strategic field encompassing materials-batteries-manufacturing of next-generation batteries. As a representative example, the Next-Generation Battery Research Center developed a technology to improve the atmospheric stability of sulfide solid electrolytes, a key material for all-solid-state batteries, in September of last year, and the related content was published in an internationally renowned academic journal.
KEIT is a specialized organization that carries out planning, evaluation, and management of domestic industrial technology. Through this agreement, it will establish a cooperation model for promoting Korea-US international joint R&D and discover key tasks. I'm looking forward to it.
Solid Power Inc. is a solid-state battery development company founded in 2011 in Colorado, USA, and has close partnerships with companies such as SK On, Ford, and BMW.
In the future, KETI plans to expand its local network in the U.S. through its partnership with Solid Power, a promising company in the solid-state battery field, as well as support domestic companies’ commercialization technology development and entry into the global market.
In April, KETI signed a business agreement with the National Association of Battery Industries (NAATBatt) to establish a foundation for R&D cooperation across the battery industry, including battery reuse and recycling technologies.
KETI President Shin Hee-dong said, “In a situation where competition to secure a future supply chain is intensifying, especially in major countries, next-generation batteries are a super-gap technology that can lead the global supply chain.” He added, “KETI will focus on securing global technological leadership by strengthening R&D cooperation across the battery industries in both Korea and the U.S..”
