Materials Research Institute, Advanced Materials Demonstration Research Complex Phase 1 Construction Completed
It is expected that the foundation for technological independence in the advanced materials industry and enhancement of national competitiveness will be established, thereby advancing the commercialization of advanced materials.
The Korea Institute of Materials Science (hereafter referred to as the Materials Research Institute) held the '1st Phase Completion Ceremony for the Advanced Materials Demonstration Research Complex' in Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si on the 18th, announcing a new beginning for innovation in the advanced materials industry.
This project is being promoted from 2020 to 2030 with the support of the government, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Changwon City, with the goal of establishing a foundation for practical application and verification research of advanced material source technologies.
The first phase of this project includes the construction of a ‘metal material verification test bed’ and a ‘power unit smart manufacturing center.’
The metal material verification testbed was established as an integrated infrastructure to support technological development between metal material and component companies.
A total of 44.75 billion won was invested in the project, and through more than 14 types of verification equipment, local companies will be able to enjoy benefits such as prototype production and verification technology support.
In addition, the Power Unit Smart Manufacturing Center was established with an investment of 33.55 billion won with the goal of achieving self-reliance in manufacturing technology for high-efficiency power unit materials and parts such as turbines, motors, and engines.
This facility is equipped with equipment for manufacturing and reliability evaluation of power unit parts, supports process development and commercialization, and helps strengthen the competitiveness of related companies. there is.
This completion is expected to open the way for domestic material and component companies to achieve technological independence and enhance national competitiveness.
Going forward, the Materials Research Institute plans to quickly complete the second and third phases of the project to advance the commercialization of advanced materials and strengthen cooperation between research institutes and companies to develop the Southeastern industrial belt into a key base.
Choi Cheol-jin, the president of the Korea Materials Research Institute, said, “Material technology is a key factor that determines the competitiveness of future industries,” and added, “This first phase project is an important task that has been promoted in cooperation with the government and local governments. Through this, we will invigorate the industries in the Gyeongnam region and take the lead in the development of cutting-edge industries.”
