Wave Communication Technology for Smart & Safety Mobility

The developed communication method is called WAVE (Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment). The existing vehicular communication method currently in use is DSRC technology (referred to as Hipass), which is installed at highway tollgates to charge tolls without stopping. DSRC technology enables communication at speeds of approximately 1Mbps, but it is difficult to transmit large volumes of diverse automobile information such as speed, location, and degree of acceleration and braking. WAVE has a maximum data transmission speed of 27Mbps and is a communication method well-suited to support various services including not only vehicle status information but also highway information, accident information near vehicles, and information on vehicle breakdowns and emergency vehicles. Additionally, since it is implemented as a dedicated network and public network, it has the advantage of being usable without charges. It supports both V2V and V2I communication methods. V2I refers to communication between vehicles and infrastructure, while V2V refers to direct vehicle-to-vehicle communication without base stations. Currently, WAVE is the only communication method that supports vehicle-to-vehicle communication.
