5GAA-hosted 5G-V2X global demo, use cases and safety services demonstration
Etiforce, a V2X modem specialist, demonstrated more advanced 5G-V2X direct communication, showing confidence in the implementation of 5G-V2X on public roads.
At the 32nd 5GAA meeting held in Berlin on the 24th, Etiforce demonstrated the interoperable 5G-V2X ecosystem through a 5GAA demo for OEM automobile manufacturers and government officials from various countries, including major V2X equipment manufacturers and chip manufacturers including Audi and BMW.
The event demonstrated interoperability between vehicles and infrastructure, and showed policymakers in Europe and around the world that 5G-V2X is ready for implementation on public roads.
It is expected that this will facilitate policy formulation by governments around the world for the deployment of 5G-V2X.
To this end, this demonstration demonstrated high-bandwidth transmission via 5G-V2X direct communication along with European standard V2X messages, thereby demonstrating advanced V2X use cases and safety services in addition to basic safety services.
V2X communication is an essential communication technology for connected cars and autonomous driving at Level 4 or higher. Major countries including the US, EU, China, and Korea are finalizing V2X communication policies and making full-scale investments in V2X infrastructure, and the V2X market is taking shape in earnest.
In the case of Korea, in December 2023, the 'C-ITS Single Communication Method Decision Expert Committee' decided on LTE-V2X as the single communication method to replace the existing DSRC (Direct Short Range Communication) method.
Etiforce is attracting attention from the industry by developing a solution that implements the C-V2X (Cellular V2X) method, which has been adopted as a national standard by China, the United States, and Korea, with a Software Defined Modem (SDM).
Etiphos received 8.5 billion won in Series A investment from LB Investment, Industrial Bank of Korea, L&S Venture Capital, and BNK Venture Investment in April in recognition of the potential of this software-defined modem (SDM) technology.
Yongtae Park, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Etiforce, said, “We are proud that Etiforce, a Korean V2X modem developer, is participating in this global-level demonstration. 0This is a great opportunity to share the 5G-V2X deployment experience that Etiforce and domestic research institutes have conducted in collaboration with global companies, promote the excellence of Korean 5G-V2X technology, and contribute to the development of the 5G-V2X market.”
