Launch of SiC·Si ratio 3:7 system efficiency optimized power module
Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Seung-Soo Lee) is launching a power module that combines silicon (Si) and silicon carbide (SiC) to lower costs while increasing automotive performance and efficiency, thus achieving an optimal balance, and is moving into the expansion of the e-mobility traction inverter market.
Infineon today announced the launch of its new HybridPACK™ Drive G2 Fusion power module for traction inverters in the e-mobility sector.
As the first plug-and-play power module combining Infineon’s silicon and silicon carbide (SiC) technology, HybridPACK Drive G2 Fusion provides the optimal balance between performance and cost-efficiency, expanding the options for inverter optimization.
One of the key differences between silicon and SiC in power modules is that SiC has higher thermal conductivity, breakdown voltage and switching speed, making it more efficient but more expensive than silicon-based power modules.
The new module reduces the amount of SiC used per vehicle, lowering system costs while maintaining vehicle performance and efficiency.
For example, a system supplier can achieve nearly the system efficiency of a full SiC solution using 30 percent SiC and 70 percent silicon.
Hyb expands Infineon's HybridPACK Drive power module portfolioridPACK Drive G2 Fusion can be quickly and easily integrated into vehicle components or modules.
It provides up to 220 kW in the 750 V rating and ensures high reliability and improved thermal conductivity over the full temperature range from -40°C to +175°C.
The fast turn-on capability of Infineon's CoolSiC™ technology and silicon IGBT EDT3 technology allows for the use of single-gate drivers or dual-gate drivers.
Therefore, it can be easily redesigned from an all-silicon or all-SiC based inverter to a fusion inverter.
Meanwhile, Infineon Technologies is a global semiconductor leader in the areas of power systems and IoT. Infineon’s products and solutions are driving decarbonization and digitalization. In the fiscal year 2023 (ending September 30), the company generated sales of EUR 16.3 billion with approximately 58,600 employees worldwide. Infineon is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
