MediaTek Collaboration SDV Next-Generation Infotainment Solution Unveiled
Different content for each passenger in a single operating system vehicle
LG Electronics has revolutionized the in-vehicle content consumption environment by allowing vehicle passengers to seamlessly enjoy different content through their own displays.
LG Electronics, in collaboration with global semiconductor company MediaTek, has introduced a next-generation infotainment (IVI) solution for the software-centric vehicle (SDV) era.
This technology is characterized by allowing passengers to enjoy different content on multiple displays within the vehicle.
LG Electronics unveiled its latest IVI solution together with MediaTek at 'Auto Shanghai 2025', Asia's largest motor show held from April 23 to May 2.
The technology to integrate and control multiple displays within a vehicle with just one chip and operating system (OS) has received great attention from automobile customers.
Through this collaboration, LG Electronics has equipped MediaTek's automotive system-on-chip (SoC) 'Dimensity Auto Platform' with a 'Concurrent Multi-User (CMU)' solution based on Android Automotive OS.
CMU solutionSean is a next-generation IVI technology that allows vehicle occupants to seamlessly enjoy different content through their own displays on a single operating system.
In existing vehicle infotainment systems, a separate operating system was required for each display, but in an environment where CMU technology is applied, multiple displays can be controlled simultaneously with just one operating system, providing high system efficiency.
This allows for optimizing the in-vehicle content environment while reducing resources such as CPU, memory, and storage.
While the driver uses the navigation system, the front passenger can watch YouTube and the backseat passenger can play a game, allowing for independent content operation in compliance with safety regulations.
LG Electronics and MediaTek have been collaborating since last year to advance CMU solutions, and the technology presented this time is characterized by cost efficiency and development convenience while providing a high-quality content experience.
Because it is based on a single operating system, system integration is simple and the maintenance burden is low.
LG Electronics continues to introduce various infotainment technologies targeting the SDV market.
In particular, at CES 2025 this year, the company unveiled the 'xDC (Cross Domain Controller)' platform, which integrates and controls IVI and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) on a single chip in collaboration with Qualcomm.
The platform is based on Qualcomm's 'Snapdragon Ride Flex' chip and was evaluated to have improved performance and cost efficiency by integrating various in-vehicle functions into a single controller.
LG Electronics VS Business Division Vice President Eun Seok-hyun said, “Based on innovative solutions and differentiated technologies, we are expanding partnerships with various global companies.“We will expand our partnership and lead the SDV transition,” he said.
