Launch of industry's first family of functionally isolated modulators
Texas Instruments (TI) is launching new analog products that accurately measure current and voltage with the highest resolution, enabling precise motor control and enabling robots to perform precise and complex tasks.
TI introduces the industry's first functionally isolated modulator, enabling engineers to achieve more precise motor control in small robotics designs.
The new AMC0106M05, AMC0136, and AMC0106M25 isolated modulators provide improved precision and high resolution of 12 to 14 bits ENOB (effective number of bits), enabling accurate and reliable phase current sensing and DC voltage sensing measurements.
The new additions to TI's isolated analog-to-digital converter (ADC) portfolio come in small leadless packages and help engineers achieve smooth torque operation and precise motor control while reducing size and cost in low-voltage (sub-60 V) robotics designs.
Today's engineers are struggling to design smarter robots that can perform more precise tasks.
Electrochemically isolated modulators enable robotics engineers to achieve precise motor control and system protection in smaller, more sophisticated designs.
such Their precision allows robots to perform a wide range of complex tasks, such as threading needles or handling small nuts and bolts.
Additionally, the new modulator’s small size of just 3.5mm x 2.7mm allows it to take up 50% less board space than competing reinforced isolation solutions.
This size reduction will allow engineers to integrate more features that support precise control and reliable operation when designing miniature robotic applications.
“TI’s new family of modulators helps engineers improve robotics accuracy and productivity in new use cases and smaller form factors, from the factory floor to the operations room,” said Karthik Vasanth, vice president and general manager of TI’s data converter and clock business unit. “Humanoid robots that were previously limited to simple tasks can now perform more sophisticated and detailed tasks with TI’s new functional isolated modulators.”
The new family of functionally isolated modulators is available for purchase on TI.com and is offered in an 8-pin VSON (Very Thin Small Outline) package. Evaluation modules (EVMs) for all three modulators are available to support engineers, along with reference designs and simulation models.
