9mm x 9mm smallest size in its class, clear even on large displays over 100 inches
Texas Instruments (TI) has announced a new 90 percent smaller DLP® controller that enables compact designs for consumer applications such as lifestyle or gaming projectors and augmented reality glasses.
TI held a press conference on the 28th and announced the launch of a new display controller that implements the smallest, fastest, and lowest power 4K UHD (ultra-high definition) projector ever.
TI's DLPC8445 display controller is the smallest in its class at 9mm x 9mm, yet operates with ultra-low latency and can deliver sharp image quality even on large displays over 100 inches.
This new controller, combined with a compatible digital micromirror device (DMD) DLP472TP and a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) with LED driver DLPA3085, enables engineers to recreate the display experience of high-end TVs and gaming monitors in compact projectors.
“Immersive display entertainment is now a trend that appeals not just to movie buffs and gamers, but to everyday consumers as well,” said Jeff Marsh, vice president and general manager of TI’s DLP products. “While consumers have traditionally needed a large TV or monitor for a crisp, clear display, they can now choose to project their favorite content on a wall of any size with lifestyle or gaming projectors.”“TI’s new controller is the latest example of how TI DLP technology is enabling engineers to develop stunning entertainment displays anywhere,” he said.
As more and more consumers look to immerse themselves in a variety of content, including movies, games, and TV shows, lifestyle and gaming projectors are growing in popularity.
TI’s new DLPC8445 controller and DLP472TP DMD enable designers to minimize gamer downtime by implementing displays with low-millisecond latency and performance that rivals or exceeds the world’s best gaming monitors.
The first DLP chipset to integrate variable refresh rate (VRR) support, allowing designers to easily synchronize frame rates, eliminating lag, screen tearing, and stuttering for a better display experience for gamers. Additionally, advanced image correction dynamically adjusts for surface imperfections, allowing consumers to conveniently enjoy gaming or watching content from anywhere. This is the first DLP controller for laser-illuminated, battery-powered projectors.
For more than 25 years, TI DLP technology has been impacting the way people experience content, enabling vivid, sharp images from the cinema to the home and even on the go through high-resolution displays and advanced lighting control solutions.
