Development of new technologies and systems for safe supply of special gases
Contribute to the development of national strategic industries such as semiconductors
Merck Korea, a leading science and technology company, was recognized for its contribution to improving gas supply technology through the development of new technologies and systems for the safe supply of special gases and to ensuring gas safety and spreading a safety culture in large-scale factories.
Korea Merck recently announced that its subsidiary, Versum Materials Hanyang Gigon Co., Ltd., received the Prime Minister's Award at the 30th 'Republic of Korea Gas Safety Awards' ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Gas Safety Corporation.
This award recognizes the company's outstanding contributions to the overall semiconductor industry, including safe gas supply through product development and new technologies, education for establishing a safety culture, and sustainable management.
Merck developed and commercialized the first domestic special gas supply system for semiconductor production lines, which has contributed to the national industrial development by enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic semiconductor industry through import substitution effects of over KRW 200 billion per year, job creation, and increased productivity/reduced facility investment costs for customers by over KRW 300 billion per year.
In particular, it safely supplies essential gases required for semiconductor manufacturing processes, and contributed to the High Pressure Gas Safety Management Act by suggesting the use of cylinder cabinets as specific equipment in 2001. I am complying.
Kim Woo-kyu, CEO of Merck Korea, said in his acceptance speech, “Merck is a company that values the safety of its employees and society as its top priority. The experience and expertise in equipment for the stable supply of gases and chemicals, as well as in the delivery system and service (DS&S) sector that we have accumulated since the days of Hanyang Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., have enabled us to secure global supply capabilities and technological prowess through the merger with Merck in 2019, thereby implementing operational excellence essential for new semiconductor manufacturing. In addition, through this, we have contributed to the spread of a gas safety culture in Korea, which has created jobs across the industry. In addition, through continuous technological development, we have recently developed a system that can dramatically improve defects in corrosive gases, maximizing efficiency in semiconductor lines. We are very pleased to be able to contribute to our customers and the development of Korea’s advanced industries, and we feel a greater sense of responsibility.”
