Completed construction of 4 field centers, full-scale launch of testing, certification, evaluation, and human resource development

The Korea Automobile Research Institute (President Jin Jong-wook, hereinafter referred to as KARI) has completed the construction of a testing and certification infrastructure to create a carbon-neutral mobility industry ecosystem and enhance technological competitiveness and is set to begin full-scale operation.

On the 29th, Hanjayeon held the 'Carbon Neutral Mobility Center Integrated Completion Ceremony' at the Eco-friendly Ship Virtual Demonstration Center in Gwanchang General Industrial Complex, Jugyo-myeon, Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do.

The event was attended by approximately 300 people including government, local government, and corporate officials, including Director Jin Jong-wook of Hanjaewon, South Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Tae-heum, Boryeong Mayor Kim Dong-il, Boryeong City Council Speaker Choi Eun-soon, STX Engine CEO Lee Sang-soo, Hwaseong Catalyst CEO Han Hyeon-sik, Hyundai Motor Company Managing Director Shin Won-san, and Automobile Cooperative Association Chairman Lee Taek-seong.

The Carbon Neutral Mobility Center is a project that has been promoted since 2021 through close cooperation between the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Science and ICT, South Chungcheong Province, Boryeong City, and Hanjayun. The goal is to develop future mobility technologies and support companies for carbon neutrality through verification infrastructure in four fields: automobiles, ships, electric vehicles, and metaverse.

The center was built on a 9,847㎡ site in Gwanchang Industrial Complex, Jugyo-myeon, Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do, and consists of four centers: an electric vehicle tuning support center, a high-performance electric vehicle center, an eco-friendly ship testing and evaluation center, and an eco-friendly ship virtual demonstration center.

Currently, the electric vehicle tuning support center is in operation, and the other three centers will be opened sequentially by the end of this year. It is expected to operate.

Hanjaeyeon, the government, and local governments plan to accelerate the creation of a carbon-neutral mobility industry ecosystem through the organic operation of four centers.

Jin Jong-wook, the president of Hanjayeon, said, “The Carbon Neutral Mobility Center is a base for the growth and innovation of the sustainable, eco-friendly mobility industry. I would like to thank the government and local governments for their active cooperation and support until its completion.” He added, “We will focus the capabilities of the research institute so that the Boryeong center can serve as a core infrastructure and catalyst for the development of the carbon-neutral future car industry.”
