ST Launches Serial EEPROM Family with Unique ID

기사입력2025.04.14 10:46

Meeting market demands such as identification, traceability, and sustainability

STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, is addressing market needs for identification, traceability, and more by providing a read-only, permanently immutable UID.

ST has launched a series of Serial EEPROMs with 128-bit read-only IDs (UIDs) to meet market requirements for product recognition, traceability, and repairability.

In addition to the traditional EEPROM user memory space for parameter storage and data logging, the new Serial EEPROM series provides a read-only UID that is pre-programmed at the ST factory and cannot be permanently changed.

OEMs can easily leverage this UID for basic product identification and cloning detection as an alternative to entry-level secure elements. This UID also supports version management and upgrade control.

Each device is available in memory capacities ranging from 32Kbit to 2Mbit and maintains a factory-programmed unique ID throughout the product's lifecycle, from component sourcing and manufacturing through field deployment, maintenance, and disposal. This unique UID enables seamless traceability, supports reliability analysis, and simplifies equipment reuse and maintenance.

The M24xxx-U series, featuring ST's proprietary CMOS EEPROM technology, is the initial model and offers capacities of 64Kbit and 128Kbit, and guarantees an industry-leading 4 million write cycles, 200 years of data retention, and low power consumption.

The memory is available in an industry-standard SO8N package for easy integration and supports a wide operating voltage range from 1.7 V to 5.5 V. All devices support I²C bus modes of 100 kHz (standard mode), 400 kHz (fast mode), and 1 MHz (fast mode plus). In addition to random and sequential read modes, a write protection mode for the entire memory array is provided. Enhanced ESD and latch-up protection and 4 kV HBM (Human Body Model) ESD protection are also provided.

Pricing for the 64Kbit M24C64-UFMN6TP starts at $0.13 per unit in quantities of 1,000, while the 128Kbit M24128-UFMN6TP starts at $0.15 per unit in quantities of 1,000. Both are available now.
