Supply expansion plan aligned with Israel's strengthened greenhouse gas reduction targets

Hyundai Motor Company is launching its expansion into the Middle Eastern hydrogen electric truck market, starting with the entry of the XCIENT Fuel Cell hydrogen electric truck into Israel.

Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 13th that it has decided to supply a total of three XCIENT hydrogen electric trucks, one each to △Colmobil, Israel's sales distributor, △Bazan, a hydrogen production company, and △Sonol, a hydrogen charging station operator.

The vehicles to be delivered to these companies are 4x2 XCIENT hydrogen electric trucks equipped with a 180kW-class hydrogen fuel cell system capable of driving over 400km on a single charge.

Among these, the XCIENT hydrogen electric truck to be supplied to Colmobil is expected to be put into full operation for automobile parts transportation starting from the first quarter of next year, and is projected to be recorded as the first hydrogen electric truck to operate commercially in the Middle East region.

Colmobil, Bazan, and Sonol signed mutual business agreements to establish a hydrogen value chain last year in accordance with the Israeli government's strong carbon neutrality commitment, and as part of this effort, decided to introduce the XCIENT hydrogen electric truck at this time.

Last year, Israel announced its nationally determined contribution (NDC) for greenhouse gas emissions reduction of 27% by 2030 and 85% by 2050 compared to 2015 levels.

This sets a more long-term and ambitious target than the existing plan to reduce per capita greenhouse gas emissions by 26% by 2030 compared to 2005 levels.

Hyundai Motor Company also plans to expand the supply of XCIENT hydrogen electric trucks in the Middle East region, centered on Israel, to participate in this movement.

Mark Freymueller, Executive Vice President of Hyundai Motor Company's Commercial Innovation Division, stated, "Our participation in the initial construction of local hydrogen infrastructure through close cooperation with major Israeli companies is an important milestone for Hyundai Motor Company, which is working to form a global hydrogen value chain," and added, "I am confident that the XCIENT hydrogen electric truck will be able to make a substantial contribution to accelerating Israel's energy transition."

The XCIENT hydrogen electric truck is the world's first mass-produced heavy-duty hydrogen electric truck by Hyundai Motor Company and is currently in operation in South Korea, Switzerland, Germany, and New Zealand.

In particular, the 47 units introduced in Switzerland achieved a cumulative driving distance of 5 million kilometers from October 2020 to October this year, proving their reliability and environmental friendliness.

Additionally, a total of 35 XCIENT hydrogen electric trucks supplied to California through the California Port Clean Truck Introduction Project (NorCAL ZERO) and the California Air Quality Improvement Program "2021 TAG (Targeted Airshed Grants)" led by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are set to begin commercial operation in the third quarter of next year.
