According to Nokia's 'Global Network Traffic 2030 Report,' the trend of network traffic growth is expected to continue through 2030.

Nokia announced its 'Technology Strategy 2030' on the 14th, which defines the technology, network, and latest trends for the next seven years.

Nishant Batra, Nokia's Chief Strategy Technology Officer, stated that "Nokia's 'Technology Strategy 2030' is a direct response to the proliferation of cutting-edge technologies that has been ongoing over the past decade," and added, "Nokia presents a future network architecture for customers and industry. This architecture provides opportunities for innovation, sustainability, productivity, and collaboration, which is only possible through exponentially powerful network capabilities."

Nokia's Technology Strategy 2030 identifies trends and cutting-edge technologies that will impact telecom operators, enterprises, and industrial networks over the next seven years, and explains how Nokia will support network advancement based on these insights.

Key trends identified include AI, cloud continuum, metaverse, API economy, Industry 5.0, value internet, sustainability, and security. All these trends are fundamentally centered on ultra-high-speed networks with robust security capabilities.

According to Nokia's 'Global Network Traffic 2023 Report,' consumer data traffic demand is expected to record a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22-25% from 2022 to 2030. By 2030, global network traffic demand is projected to reach 2,443-3,109 exabytes (EB) per month.

If cloud gaming and XR adoption increase significantly in the latter period (2026-2030), Nokia forecasts a compound annual growth rate of 32%. Nokia stated that "to support surging future demand, networks must become cognitive and automated by leveraging AI, while simultaneously responding to new requirements and operational models of enterprises and consumers."

Jerry Caron, Global Head of Research and Analysis at GlobalData Technology, provided a positive assessment of Nokia's 2030 future technology strategy. He said, "Given the pace of technological advancement we are currently experiencing, network traffic will increase dramatically by 2030. Nokia's future technology strategy, which focuses on the effective use of AI and cloud, connectivity, and the API economy, can be viewed as a framework that telecom operators and enterprises must adopt going forward.

The telecommunications industry must transition from its traditional, vertically integrated structure toward a more horizontal and API-centric future, which will enable the provision of simpler, more scalable, automated, and more flexible services. The entire industry, including Nokia, must demonstrate that it is accurately identifying problems and opportunities through new approaches as mentioned in the long-term vision of 'Nokia Technology Strategy 2030,'" he added.
