20 kHz operation in hard-switching circuits

ST has launched the second 600-volt series of its intelligent power module family, SLLIMM. This product improves efficiency and safety in motor drives for home appliances and industrial products, such as compressors, pumps, and ventilation fans. Targeting drives operating up to 20 kilohertz in hard-switching circuits, the new module enhances energy efficiency in application power output ranges from 300 watts to 3 kilowatts.

This new product is built upon the success of ST’s Dual-in-Line SLLIMM™ product family and enables a direct connection between a low-voltage microcontroller and a main-power electric motor, allowing up to 10 active components to be replaced.

The second series of SLLIMM offers improved performance and a wider range of current collections. Additionally, the addition of package technology options allows for smaller heat sinks, helping to reduce application costs.

The second series of SLLIMM features a new internal configuration. Consisting of only two drivers (one high-side driver and one low-side driver) and dedicated TGFS (Trench-Gate Field-Stop) IGBTs, it provides the industry's best balance of conduction-switch losses and offers excellent robustness and EMI characteristics.


SLLIMM covers a maximum current collection current of up to 35A at 25°C and supports a fully molded DBC (Direct Bond Copper) dual-in-line (38x24mm2) pin-compatible package option. Additionally, the DBC package version offers the industry's lowest thermal resistance (Rth). It features an integrated temperature sensor and a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) option, as well as a comparator for malfunction prevention. It also includes shutdown inputs and fault detection outputs, and offers two pin-out and two lead-frame options.
