Scholarships and internship opportunities provided to a total of 3 domestic winning teams

Schneider Electric announced that it is holding the 6th 'Go Green in the City' contest to collect novel energy management ideas from university and graduate students until April 15.

Now in its sixth year, 'Go Green in the City' is a global competition hosted by Schneider Electric since 2011 for university and graduate students worldwide, aiming to discover creative energy management ideas for the realization of smart cities. As global interest in energy issues grows, the scale of the event has expanded every year, with 12,800 applicants from 168 countries registering last year.

Any currently enrolled or on leave of absence student in their second year or higher, majoring in engineering or business administration at a domestic university (or graduate school), may freely participate by forming a team of two. In accordance with the corporate philosophy of respecting diversity, each team must include at least one female student. In addition, Schneider Electric operates a 'Go Green in the City' team pool for the convenience of applicants.

Ideas for the contest can be registered and submitted through the contest website (www.gogreeninthecity.com) until April 15. Participants may choose one of the following categories: 'Measures to enhance energy sustainability and accessibility,' 'Microgrid eco-solutions,' 'Creative recycling ideas,' 'Solutions for the energy-poor,' or a free topic regarding smart energy management. Participating teams should propose an actionable energy management solution in the form of a case study, written in English as a 4-page PowerPoint presentation or a Word document of approximately 300 characters.

One final team selected to represent Korea in the East Asia regional finals

Three outstanding teams will be selected through the Korean finals on May 13, 2016, and will be provided with a total of 9 million won in scholarships and an internship opportunity at Schneider Electric Korea during the vacation period. The winning team representing Korea will participate in the East Asia regional finals held overseas after receiving mentoring from Schneider Electric energy experts.

In the East Asia regional finals, one team will be selected as the regional representative to compete with university students from around the world for novel and groundbreaking ideas at the global finals held in Paris, France, in September 2016. The global winning team will be given the opportunity to travel to the United States and Europe for 15 days and the benefit of employment at Schneider Electric.

At last year's competition, the 'KiSeran' team, consisting of Yonsei University student Lee Se-ran and Seoul National University student Ki Seung-jun, participated in the East Asia finals. They shared their thoughts on winning, stating, “Through participating in the competition, we were able to gain a deeper understanding of energy issues by contemplating ways to apply solutions to energy and environmental problems in real life.” They added, “We hope that more students will participate in the Go Green in the City competition this year to take an interest in energy issues, communicate with students around the world, and gain learning opportunities that are not easily accessible in school.”
