Toshiba Launches Inverter IC with Enhanced Built-in Protection Function for Automotive Applications
Published2016.04.18 14:48Toshiba Corporation announced on the 18th the launch of the 'TB9150FNG,' an optically isolated IGBT gate pre-driver IC with enhanced protection functions for built-in inverters in electric and hybrid vehicles.
Inverter control is used to efficiently drive motors in electric and hybrid vehicles. Since the control function and drive function use different operating voltages, they must be isolated from each other. This product features an integrated photocoupler that provides strong isolation between the control and drive functions.
Additionally, to efficiently drive an IGBT, a compact, multi-functional high-performance IGBT gate pre-driver IC with built-in protection functions is required. This IC integrates IGBT temperature detection function, flyback transformer control circuitry, and short-circuit detection function (current sensing and DESAT monitoring), enabling system miniaturization.
Mass production of this IC is scheduled to begin in 2018, and it will be displayed at the 'TECHNO-FRONTIER 2016' exhibition to be held at MakuhariMesse in Chiba Prefecture, Japan from April 20-22.
