Q2 Global Semiconductor Equipment Sales Increase 26% from Q1
Published2016.09.19 17:07The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) announced that global semiconductor manufacturing equipment shipments for Q2 2016 reached $10.5 billion.
This represents a 26% increase from Q1's $8.3 billion and an 11% increase compared to Q2 2015. SEMI compiles reports based on monthly data aggregated from 95 global equipment companies in cooperation with the Japan Semiconductor Equipment Association (SEAJ).
Global equipment bookings for Q2 2016 totaled $11.9 billion, up 27% from Q1's $9.4 billion and up 17% year-over-year. The table is displayed in U.S. dollars (unit: billions of dollars) and shows quarterly shipments by region, quarter-over-quarter growth rates, and year-over-year growth rates.

Semiconductor equipment orders and shipments continue to increase, leading to increased investment in the second half of the year.
According to the May BB ratio report released by SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International), North American semiconductor equipment manufacturers' net orders (3-month average) for May 2016 were $1.75 billion, with a BB ratio of 1.09. The BB ratio is calculated by dividing orders by shipments, and a BB ratio of 1.09 means that orders are $109 for every $100 in shipments. May front-end equipment orders were $1.54 billion, an increase from the previous month's $1.4 billion in orders and up 15.3% compared to the same period last year (May 2015). May front-end equipment shipments were $1.38 billion, with a front-end equipment BB ratio of 1.11 (April front-end equipment BB ratio was 1.09). April front-end equipment shipments were $1.28 billion, and last year's May shipments were $1.35 billion (the front-end equipment category includes wafer processing, mask/reticle manufacturing, wafer manufacturing, and fab equipment).

According to the June BB ratio report released by SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International), the three-month average bookings for North American semiconductor equipment manufacturers in June 2016 totaled $1.71 billion, with a BB ratio of 1.00. The BB ratio is calculated by dividing bookings by billings. A BB ratio of 1.00 means that bookings are $100 for every $100 in billings. June bookings of $1.71 billion declined 2.1% compared to May bookings of $1.75 billion, and increased 12.9% compared to June of the previous year at $1.52 billion. June semiconductor equipment billings totaled $1.71 billion, up 7% from May billings of $1.60 billion and up 10.2% from June of the previous year at $1.55 billion.
