Up to 5W in a TSOT-23 package

Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the launch of a new product (product name: LT8303), a monolithic flyback regulator in a TSOT-23 package that significantly simplifies the design of isolated DC/DC converters.

Because the new device samples the isolated output voltage directly from the primary-side flyback waveform, it eliminates the need for an opto-isolator, LT1431, or a third winding for regulation. The LT8303 operates over a 5.5V to 100V input voltage range, integrates a 0.45A/150V DMOS power switch, and delivers up to 5W of output power, making it suitable for a wide range of telecom, datacom, automotive, industrial, medical, and military applications.

The output voltage can be set with just one external resistor and the transformer turns ratio. Several off-the-shelf transformers, listed in the datasheet, are available for a variety of applications. The LT8303 operates in boundary mode®, a variable-frequency current-mode control switching scheme, typically providing ±5% output voltage regulation over the entire line, load, and temperature range. Boundary mode allows the use of a smaller transformer compared to equivalent continuous conduction mode (CCM) designs.

The LT8303's high integration and low ripple Burst Mode® operation provide a simple, low component count, high efficiency application solution for isolated power supplies.

In addition, it supports output short-circuit protection, 70μA no-load operating standby current, internal loop compensation, accurate enable, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO) with built-in hysteresis.

Extended and industrial versions operate over a junction temperature range of –40°C to 125°C or higher. Pricing starts at $3.15 per unit in quantities of 1,000.
