Adoption of SmartMesh IP for Wireless Mesh Network Implementation

Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced that Advantech, a leader in embedded and automation products and solutions, has adopted Linear’s SmartMesh IP ^™ wireless mesh technology to implement highly reliable and low-power industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications utilizing its new standard M2.COM sensor platform.

The M2.COM platform combines wireless technology, MCUs, and network functions with standardized sensor interfaces. By including SmartMesh IP mesh networks in this platform, users are now able to embed wireless mesh communication technology into their industrial IoT solutions. It is based on the global IEEE 802.15.4 standard and includes a pre-compiled networking stack that provides over 99.999% network reliability with ultra-low power. This is a very important feature for industrial IoT applications, given that wireless sensor networks may be installed in very harsh environments or remote locations.

SmartMesh® networks have already been installed in over 50,000 customer networks across 120 countries and have proven their performance in a wide range of applications. SmartMesh
IP products can operate for more than 10 years on battery power, and because they are battery-powered, wireless sensor nodes can be installed anywhere, making installation simple and long-term maintenance easy. All SmartMesh products include a pre-compiled network stack and dynamic mesh optimization software, allowing developers to focus on developing urgent industrial IoT applications and leverage Linear Technology's mesh networking expertise built into all products.

M2.COM was introduced earlier this year to provide manufacturers and sensor suppliers with an open standard sensor platform capable of simplifying and accelerating IoT sensor applications. M2.COM’s target applications include outdoor wireless sensors and wireless measurement systems. These include carbon dioxide meters, pH meters, humidity sensors for agriculture, sensing and tracking devices for supply chains and logistics, and intelligent wireless controllers capable of remote management, such as for streetlights, traffic lights, and waste management tasks.
