LG Electronics Announces LTE-Based V2V Standard Technology
V2P and V2I standard technologies are expected to be completed by March next year.

The 'LTE-based vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V) technology' developed by LG Electronics has been announced as a global standard. This is the first time that cellular technology-based vehicle communication (Cellular-V2X) technology, such as LTE, has been established as a standard.

In March of last year, LG Electronics proposed 'LTE-based vehicle communication (V2X, Vehicle to Everything) technology' to '3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project, a global mobile communications standardization technology cooperation organization)' and was selected as 'Rapporteur', leading the technology development.

V2X technology, which LG Electronics is leading the development of, is based on LTE, a cellular technology, for communication between vehicles and all entities, including ▲Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), ▲Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P), and ▲Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I).

Among these, 3GPP has given priority to completing the vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication standard, and plans to complete the V2P (Vehicle to Pedestrian) and V2I (Vehicle to Infrastructure) standard technologies led by LG Electronics by March next year.

LG Electronics anticipates that LTE-based V2X technology will enable more sophisticated future intelligent transportation services, including collision avoidance, pedestrian protection, traffic flow control, autonomous driving, and in-vehicle multimedia services. LG Electronics is also leading the development of 5G-based V2X standard candidate technology, having been selected as the lead developer.

Vice President Kwak Kook-yeon, head of the Next Generation Standards Research Institute at LG Electronics' CTO Division, said, "The completion of this standard is a meaningful result of expanding mobile communication technology into a convergence standard in the automotive field," adding, "In the future, LGHe emphasized, “We expect this to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the electronics auto parts business.”
