Official Announcement of Brand Name for Next-Generation High-Performance Processors Based on Zen Architecture

AMD held the 'New Horizon' event for AMD fans and unveiled 'Ryzen™', the next-generation high-performance desktop processor based on its 'Zen' architecture (codename Summit Ridge).

AMD Ryzen desktop processors are high-performance products featuring 8 cores, 16 threads, and a clock speed of 3.4GHz, and are scheduled for official release in the first quarter of 2017.

Starting with the launch of the Ryzen processor, AMD plans to open new horizons in the high-performance CPU field by building an all-encompassing brand that extends to desktop and laptop product lines based on the Zen architecture. In addition, through the new SenseMI technology integrated into Ryzen, it intends to meet the high-performance computing needs of gamers and PC hardware enthusiasts. SenseMI technology is AMD's latest technology capable of sensing, adapting to, and learning the PC usage environment. Combined with the Ryzen processor's improved architecture, platform, power efficiency, and computing technology, it delivers more powerful performance.

SenseMI technology, featured in the Zen architecture, played a key role in AMD achieving instructions per clock (IPC) that is more than 40 percent improved over the previous generation.

Jim Anderson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of AMD’s Computing and Graphics division, explained, “As new fields such as virtual reality, 3D modeling, and esports are rapidly developing in the desktop market, the importance of more powerful computing and graphics processing capabilities is growing day by day,” and stated, “AMD’s Ryzen processors were developed to respond to these changing trends and will revitalize the desktop market through innovation and competition.”

Meanwhile, AMD hosted the 'New Horizon' fan event to announce its next-generation Ryzen processors, showcasing powerful performance and diverse features designed to benefit a wide range of users, from professionals such as digital content creators, virtual reality developers, and game industry professionals to hardware enthusiasts.
