LG Electronics has become the first in the domestic IT industry to qualify for direct participation in the joint development of international standard software for automotive parts.

On the 25th, LG Electronics was approved to join AUTOSAR, an international standards organization for automotive software, as a Premium Partner. Among AUTOSAR’s partners, there are only three Korean institutions and companies: LG Electronics, ETRI, and Hyundai Motor Company, with LG Electronics being the only IT company among them.

AUTOSAR publishes standard specifications for the integrated management of various automotive electronic component software, and partner companies of four tiers—Core, Premium, Development, and Associate—are participating in the development.

Nine automakers and parts manufacturers, including BMW, GM, Toyota, Continental, and Bosch, participate as core partners in determining AUTOSAR's major policies, and most global automotive industries, including the United States, Europe, and Japan, adhere to AUTOSAR standards as international standards.

The Premium Partner status LG Electronics has recently acquired grants it the right to directly participate in the establishment of AUTOSAR standards alongside core partners and to conduct pre-testing of standard software prior to its official distribution.

Given the usual practice of new members joining as Associate Partners—who typically hold only final standard software licenses—and being promoted step-by-step only after meeting certain requirements, it is highly unusual for LG Electronics to be approved as a Premium Partner immediately upon joining.

This is the result of LG Electronics being recognized for its position in the automotive parts industry, including technological capabilities and stability accumulated through continuous research and development as a 'Tier 1 (first-tier supplier)'. In addition, they explained that as a global IT company, they have been recognized for their outstanding software technology, such as maintaining a research lab in Silicon Valley, developing their own OS 'webOS', and applying it to major products like TVs and home appliances.
