FLIR Systems Korea announced that the grand prize winner of the 2nd FLIR Thermal Imaging Photo Contest was 'I Smell Meat Grilling From Here', and the runner-up was 'Son, It's So Hot in Here. It's 150 Degrees'.

This is the second time that the FLIR Thermal Imaging Photo Contest has been held. A total of 80 works were submitted to this thermal imaging photo contest, which was designed to raise awareness of safety, accidents, and fire prevention in everyday life, including industrial sites, homes, schools, and offices.

FLIR selected a total of 52 winning entries, including the Grand Prize and Excellence Awards, from among these entries based on their relevance to the theme, originality of expression, and usability of thermal imaging camera functions. To ensure a fair evaluation, differences in performance and resolution depending on the camera model used for filming were excluded from the evaluation criteria.

The work selected as the grand prize winner, 'I smell meat grilling somewhere (Submitter: Kang Sang-hyeop),' warns of the risk of burns when standing directly in front of a large-scale far-infrared tube heater. In winter, people often approach the heater to warm their cold hands and feet, but the thermal image captures the fact that burns can occur even without touching the heater surface. In fact, the spot temperature of the model's lower back standing directly in front of the heater in the photo indicates 112°C.

The grand prize winner, 'Son, it's super hot in here. It's 150 degrees (Submitter: Sang-gyu Cho)', visualized the high temperature of a grill (150°C) as a chunk of meat to inform children of the dangers of charcoal barbecue grills, which are commonly used at campsites, in a fun way. Rather than nagging curious children about the dangers of charcoal grills, the father's wit and warmth were well expressed in having the children check the temperature with their own eyes using thermal imaging so that they could remember it for a long time.

Various prizes will be awarded to the winners of this contest. The grand prize winners and best prize winners will receive department store gift certificates (300,000 won and 200,000 won, respectively), and the encouragement prize winners will receive a USB storage device with the FLIR logo engraved on it.
