Up to 123W Power Delivery Under CAT-5e Cable Conditions

Linear Technology Korea announced the launch of a single-port Power over Ethernet (PoE) controller (Model: LTC4279) for PSE (power sourcing equipment).

Linear stated that this product can deliver up to 123W of power under CAT-5e cable conditions for high-power consumption applications.

The LTC4279 serves to deliver power to various PD (powered devices). This includes all legacy (<13W), IEEE 802.3at Type 1 (13W) and Type 2 (25.5W) PDs, Linear's proprietary LTPoE++ (up to 90W), and custom (<123W) PDs. Both 2-pair and 4-pair output topologies are supported, as well as single signature and dual signature architectures.

The LTC4279 allows selection of deliverable power through resistor configuration, enabling easy multi-socket utilization and simplifying design and BOM (Bill of Materials). Additionally, it provides autonomous operation for various PSE applications including endpoint and midspan power injectors. Thermal design is simplified through the use of low-power sense resistors and external MOSFETs.

The LTC4279 provides comprehensive PD classification mechanisms for broad system compatibility. Moreover, device robustness has been enhanced with classification-dependent current cutoff and limit thresholds, short circuit protection, and ±80V cable surge protection.

The LTC4279 is available in industrial temperature grade range (–40°C ~ 85°C) and RoHS-compliant 4mm x 5mm QFN-20 and SO-16 packages. Combined with LT4275 and LT4276 PDs, the LTC4279 enables a 123W end-to-end design.
