igus announced that it has developed intelligent smart plastics targeting Industry 4.0 at the Automation World coming in March.
igus explained that smart plastics have intelligent i-sense modules built into e-chains, cables, and linear bearings, enabling detection of operational errors and prevention of malfunctions, making maintenance automation possible.
igus's motion plastics based on polymer materials can withstand moisture, salt, oil, and chemical substances as well as extreme temperatures up to 250℃. In addition, they offer dynamic motion capabilities that can substitute for metals, high energy efficiency, and lightweight benefits.

i-sense products, composed of various sensors and monitoring modules, can send early warnings to users before failures through self-monitoring. The igus communication module (icom) is connected with networking and direct integration with the customer's IT infrastructure is achieved.
Additionally, service life monitoring is also possible. Based on test data, smooth operational life can be predicted through continuous distance measurement and system parameter calculations during actual operation. Through igus data center access, more digital options such as customized service life calculation and business process optimization can be connected, and spare parts orders or commissioning services required for maintenance can also be requested.
