High-Temperature Operation Guaranteed at 150°C, No Optocoupler or Auxiliary Winding Required
Smaller Transformer Possible with Continuous Current Mode Design

Linear Technology has announced the release of the H-grade LT8304/-1, a monolithic flyback regulator that guarantees operation at high temperatures up to 150°C.

Linear stated that the new product directly samples the isolated output voltage from the primary-side flyback waveform, eliminating the need for separate optocouplers or auxiliary windings for output regulation.

The LT8304 operates over an input voltage range of 3V to 100V and features an integrated 2A/150V DMOS power switch, providing maximum output power of 24W, enabling its use in a wide range of applications including automotive, industrial, medical, and military.



Additionally, the LT8304-1 version is designed to support high output voltages up to 1kV maximum. Operating in Boundary Mode, a variable frequency current mode control switching principle, it delivers typical output voltage regulation characteristics of ±5% or better across the entire line, load, and temperature range.

Boundary Mode enables the use of smaller transformers compared to equivalent continuous conduction mode (CCM) designs. Multiple transformer off-the-shelf products listed in the datasheet can be utilized for various applications.

The LT8304 features high integration and utilizes low-ripple Burst Mode® operation, making it easy to use, requiring fewer components, and providing highly efficient application solutions for isolated power delivery. Additionally, it supports output short-circuit protection, 116μA no-load standby quiescent current, undervoltage lockout (UVLO) function with precise enable and hysteresis built-in, internal soft-start and loop compensation functions, and output diode temperature compensation.
