SKT to Launch IoT Young Venture Entrepreneur Discovery Competition
Published2017.03.22 10:30SK Telecom is hosting an IoT Young Venture Entrepreneur Discovery Competition following the opening of the 'IoT Open House' on the 20th to activate the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem.
SK Telecom will hold an 'IoT Make-A-thon (Make-A-thon)' on the theme of implementing IoT services utilizing 'LoRa (LoRa)', an IoT-dedicated network, and announced that it will accept participation applications from domestic and overseas university and high school students from the 22nd through April 14th.
A 'Make-A-thon' is a compound word of 'Making' and 'Marathon' in which teams execute the entire process from planning to product manufacturing within a set time frame according to a given theme.
While both team and individual participation are allowed in the 'IoT Make-A-thon', SK Telecom plans to support team composition considering that completing one IoT service requires expertise across a broad range of areas including business planning, industrial design, and development capabilities.
The 'IoT Make-A-thon' will conduct document screening to select 30 teams in the first round on April 19th, and then select 10 teams in the second round through competitive presentations on May 20th. SK Telecom plans to provide participating teams with various opportunities to enhance capabilities, including talk concerts and close-knit mentoring from industry experts through 4 sessions in June and July for the second-round selected teams.
Additionally, winning teams will have opportunities to exhibit products at the IoT Week in the second half of the year and can receive linked support with joint commercialization promotion and startup support programs.
To apply for participation, applicants should fill out the application form on SK Telecom's IoT homepage (http://lora.sktiot.com/contest) with descriptions of business ideas utilizing IoT.

SK Telecom's 5G Roaming Technology Adopted as Research Project by Global Mobile Operators' Council
SK Telecom announced that its proposed 5G core roaming technology has been finally approved as a 2017 research project by the Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN). Research projects selected by NGMN are proposed as 3GPP standards through research and development and discussions by global mobile network operators. On the 26th of last month, SK Telecom proposed '5G infrastructure interworking technology between countries' as a new 2017 NGMN research project alongside global telecom operators including Deutsche Telekom, British Telecom, Singtel, and Bell Mobility (Canadian mobile operator) at the NGMN Board Meeting held in Barcelona.
