STMicroelectronics has enhanced its online design environment by adding products from Bürg Electronic, a major transformer manufacturer, to enable new projects to be processed more quickly and cost-effectively.

Increasingly, electronic product design is being carried out online using tools provided by manufacturers. These tools are often free of charge. They include templates and product selection tools to quickly start circuit design, simulators that support performance evaluation, and access to technical support and component purchasing. ST's eDesign Suite includes Switched-Mode Power Supplies (SMPS), LED lighting, filters, motor drives, and more, and can accelerate the design of various circuits and systems.



ST connects its eDesignSuite with Bürg Electronic's web-based transformer selection tool, STS (Smart Transformer Selector), enabling power supply designers to automatically select the optimal commercial transformer product while working within the eDesignSuite environment. Other online design tools generate transformer specifications, allowing designers to find ways to meet required specifications by directly ordering custom components instead of manually searching through complex transformer specification sheets. However, this may incur additional project costs and time.

“The project with Bürg Electronic enabled engineers to build and run prototypes on the bench in just a few days,” said Alessandro Cremonesi, Head of Business at ST Labs. “With this new feature introduced to eDesignSuite, users can manage the total material costs of the final product and design collaboratively, redefining the speed of online tools.”

In addition, Dean Humala, Development Manager at Bürg Electronic, explained, “By using ST’s eDesignSuite and STS together, customers of both companies can select transformers that are in stock, making it easy to determine material costs.”
