Core Technologies Included in RFI
SK Telecom announced that it has publicly released Korea's first 5G RFI (Request For Information) to formally discuss 5G services and core technologies with domestic and international partners and jointly explore the evolution direction.
Based on the RFI released this time, SK Telecom plans to coordinate 5G commercialization plans and opinions with partners and jointly discuss core technologies necessary for commercialization. It aims to present a 5G blueprint together with domestic and international partners and build an ecosystem.
The RFI contains SK Telecom's 5G promotion objectives, current status, and technology requirements. Partners wishing to participate can submit response documents. Subsequently, 5G commercialization preparations will accelerate through procedures such as RFP (Request For Proposal) transmission.
This RFI has been disclosed to all partners on SK Telecom's website, and operators interested in 5G can access it. The submission deadline for response documents to the RFI is April 27.

In particular, SK Telecom has specifically included core technologies in the RFI such as ultra-high frequency band wireless transmission, domestic and international 5G roaming, new service support based on network slicing, virtual infrastructure support, and 5G and LTE convergence for efficient 5G commercialization coordination with partners.
Accordingly, 5G and LTE convergence technology based on NSA (Non Standalone), which will complete standardization by the end of this year, is expected to be discussed more actively.
Park Jin-hyo, Head of Network Technology at SK Telecom, stated, "This RFI disclosure is SK Telecom's official first step in building a 5G ecosystem with partners and preparing for commercialization," and added, "We will make efforts to accelerate 5G commercialization through openness and cooperation and provide greater value to customers."
