SK Telecom and Facebook to Foster Communication Infrastructure Startups Together

SK Telecom and Facebook announced the creation of 'TEAC (TIP* Ecosystem Accelerator) Seoul,' a program to foster startups in the telecommunications infrastructure sector, and are recruiting participating companies.
Startups with innovative ideas or solutions in the telecommunications infrastructure field, such as machine learning-based network management technology and ultra-low latency/ultra-high capacity data transmission technology, are eligible to participate.
Startups finally selected for 'TEAC Seoul' will have the opportunity to participate in the 'TIP Summit' to be held in Silicon Valley, USA in November, allowing them to introduce their innovative technologies to major telecommunications operators and equipment manufacturers worldwide.
SK Telecom will provide office space to selected startups and operate direct mentoring programs. The company plans to support testing and advancement of startup technologies on SK Telecom's test network. Facebook will support business network expansion and investment attraction for startups participating in 'TEAC Seoul.'
TIP, established under the leadership of SK Telecom and Facebook to create an open ecosystem in the telecommunications infrastructure sector, plans to operate telecommunications infrastructure startup fostering programs not only in 'TEAC Seoul' but also in major global cities including London and Paris.
Applications for participation in 'TEAC Seoul' can be made through the online homepage (http://developers.sktelecom.com) from April 28 to June 23. SK Telecom and Facebook plan to make final selections in July through document screening and interviews.
Choi Jin-sung, head of SK Telecom's Integrated Technology Institute, stated, "TIP's launch of a telecommunications infrastructure startup fostering program in Korea is a result of recognition of our country's telecommunications technology research potential," and added, "We will take the lead in building an ecosystem in the telecommunications infrastructure sector through 'TEAC Seoul.'"
An information session for 'TEAC Seoul' recruitment will be held on May 15 at SK Seoul Campus located in Eulji-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul, and on May 16 at the KAIST Nano Comprehensive Technology Institute in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon.

Additionally, all customers who purchase 'NUGU' at Emart will receive a one-month Melon subscription worth 8,700 won. Currently, 'NUGU' can be purchased at online shopping malls such as 11Street, Gmarket, Timon, Wemakeprice, and T World Direct, as well as offline stores including Lotte Hi-Mart and major SK Telecom dealerships nationwide.

SKT Unveils Galaxy S8 Landmark in the City
SK Telecom will hold a launch event for the 'Galaxy S8' at its 'Jongno T World' store. The Jongno T World store offers plenty to see. The entire building where the store is located will be wrapped with Galaxy S8 event themes and SK Telecom's 5G slogan (Welcome to 5G Korea) imagery. SK Telecom will display its self-developed future-oriented connected car 'T5' outside the store, and will invite Kim Yuna to present awards to the first customer and hold a signing session.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
