While walking around booths at the Global Startup Conference held at COEX on the 23rd (Tuesday), I stood in front of a microphone.

"Give it a try! It's easy!" As I hummed "Hmm~um-hum-hum!~", sheet music appeared.

It's Hum on from Cool Jam Company, which records humming—that casual humming—and creates sheet music and 'songs' when you correct the notes and select your desired genre. The sheet music can be shared on SNS and managed within the app.



"We haven't done any separate promotion, but beta version downloads have exceeded 280,000. 60% is from overseas markets and 40% is from Korea."

People with an eye for quality have seen it covered not only in domestic media but also in American TechCrunch. Hum on's main features are sheet music generation technology (MIR) that converts sound into signals and AI-powered accompaniment generation technology. Sheet music generation technology enables composition not only with human voice but also with sounds like waves and rain, so anyone can compose without being able to play instruments or read sheet music. For accompaniment, it recommends various styles from ballads to orchestras and rock by training the machine with chords and harmony rules to suggest fitting accompaniments.





RecordGram, which won first place in a startup pitch competition hosted by American IT specialist media TechCrunch on the 17th, is also an app that allows songs to be sent immediately, but it is an app where composers can record 'beats' in voice and video formats and share them with each other with activated SNS functionality. According to Cool Jam Company, Hum on is the only technology that enables composition with humming alone.

Employee: "Anyone can easily compose, but now composers can also compose comfortably."

Currently available as a beta version on Android phones, with the official version and iOS version scheduled to launch in August this year.
The official version will improve song editing features such as lyrics and audio track input, overdub recording and song connection functions, and add accompaniment genres with high-quality sound. Additionally, when sending sheet music to a computer, it will be sent as PDF, and MIDI supporting connections between electronic instruments and computers will be improved.

Hum on was created based on CEO Choi Byung-ik's idea at C Lab, Samsung Electronics' in-house venture incubation company. CEO Choi and four like-minded employees became independent from Samsung Electronics in May of last year, and with the addition of a singer-songwriter and designer, they formed Cool Jam Company with ten members. Next month, they plan to participate in overseas conferences in Vienna, Moscow, Cannes, and Barcelona to promote their service.
