u-blox Launches Ultra-Compact Module Based on Low-Power Wide-Area Communication Technology

u-blox (SIX: UBXN) has announced the launch of the SARA S200. The SARA-S200 is an ultra-compact module for use in Machine Network™, based on RPMA® (Random Phase Multiple Access), a low-power wide-area communication (LPWA) technology.
Machine Network is a wireless network developed by Ingenu, the developer of RPMA technology, exclusively for M2M and IoT applications. RPMA, which operates on the 2.4 GHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) band available free worldwide, currently plays a key role in secure wireless networks in more than 20 countries.
The SARA-S200 provides cost-effective and compact dimensions ideal for applications in smart metering, smart buildings, gas and oil, asset/personnel tracking, and agriculture.

The SARA-S200, configured as an ultra-compact module (16 x 26 x 2.3mm) in an LGA (Land Grid Array) package, offers the advantage of easy migration across various form factors and cellular technologies thanks to its nested design approach. Additionally, with its low-power design (average power consumption of 50 µW in standby mode), operation for over 10 years is possible with a single battery.
The SARA-S200 will be manufactured based on secure design that meets NERC CIP and related critical industry requirements in ISO/TS 16949 certified facilities with guaranteed QoS (Quality of Service). The SARA-S200 is designed for industrial applications and provides an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C.

u-blox Announces Ultra-Low-Power GNSS Receiver Chip, Perfect for Wearables
u-blox announced the launch of the UBX M8230 CT GNSS receiver chip solution that offers an outstanding balance in both performance and ultra-low power consumption. The newly introduced Super-E (Super Efficient) mode reduces power consumption to 20mW, which is one-third of the previous level, while updating the position every second with minimal loss of accuracy. When tested in wearable and mobile electronic devices deployed in environments with small antennas or where continuous satellite signal reception is unavailable due to user movement, this solution consistently delivers excellent speed and positioning accuracy.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
