Asia-Pacific Region Smart City Public Voting
Conducted for the Month of June, Open to Everyone

IDC announced that it will conduct an open public vote for one month in June to select the best smart city project in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Japan).
Now in its third year, the IDC Smart City Project includes the Smart City Development Index to support the evolution and development foundation of major cities in the Asia-Pacific region, and is also conducting the Smart City Asia Pacific Awards (Smart City Asia Pacific Awards, SCAPA) by selecting representative smart city projects within the Asia-Pacific region.

This year, more than 150 smart city projects from the Asia-Pacific region were nominated, and 46 projects were selected as finalists. From Korea, Changwon's "Smart Grid Project," Incheon's "Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) Smart City Integrated Operations Center," and Daejeon's "119 Emergency Rescue Service" are on the final candidate list.

Kim Kyung-min, Senior Research Manager at Korea IDC responsible for IoT research, stated, "In the case of domestic smart cities, various attempts are being made while undergoing a technical development process from U-City to Smart City," and noted that after going through the past large-scale construction phase of building overall city infrastructure, various dissemination projects are currently being developed centered on smart urban service development to facilitate citizens' convenience. He explained that through the establishment of these component services, the trend is that smart cities are developing into mature smart cities that citizens can practically experience, moving beyond the concept stage.

The Smart City Awards subdivides smart cities into 14 categories using IDC's Smart City Development Index framework, with three candidates selected per category, and will conduct research including public voting from the Asia-Pacific population. This year, public voting accounts for 50% in the selection of winners, with the remaining 50% determined through internal evaluation (IDC Research Team 25%, Advisory Committee 25%).

IDC's 14 functional categories for smart cities include <Transportation> <Public Utilities> <Smart Buildings> <Smart Grid> <Smart Water> <Administration> <Economic Development> <Land Use and Environmental Management> <Permits and Licensing, Inspection, and Urban Planning Zoning> <Public Safety> <Education> <Travel, Arts, Library, Culture, Public Space> <Connected Health> <Social Welfare> and others.
