SK Telecom showcased a 5G hot air balloon at the Jamsil Sports Complex, where the music festival 'Ultra Korea 2017' was held.
SK Telecom operated a VR hot air balloon during the 'Ultra Korea' event to allow music fans to experience the media services that 5G will introduce in advance. When visitors put on VR devices and board the hot air balloon, they can feel a vivid sense of realism as if they are flying in the actual sky in a virtual space.

SKT to establish IoT security guidelines
SK Telecom announced that following its appointment as the chair of the 'IoT Security Division,' it will take the lead in discovering security policies to activate the IoT industry. The 'IoT Security Division' is a consultation body comprising private companies such as SK Telecom and LG CNS, related startups, academia, and research institutions. In March, private companies and research institutions united to launch the 'Public-Private IoT Expansion Council' for systematic IoT industry development, and structured the council into four divisions: ▲Security ▲Convergence ▲Network·Service ▲Platform·Standardization. Among these, the 'IoT Security Division' took swift action to strengthen IoT ecosystem competitiveness by appointing a chair organization and embarking on substantive activities.

SKT, Apartment Competitiveness Determined by Air Quality
As concerns about family health grow amid increasingly severe fine dust pollution, a service has emerged that automatically manages indoor air quality by utilizing the latest big data analysis technology. SK Telecom announced the launch of a smart home air care service that collects and analyzes various air data from air-related devices linked to its smart home platform, provides customized indoor air management guidance, and automatically operates linked devices. Air-related devices include air conditioners, air purifiers, air washers, and air quality measurement devices. Additionally, through SK TechX's WeatherPhome, weather conditions such as temperature and fine dust near the home collected are analyzed together with indoor air information, and then health management guidance from specialists at Seoul Samsung Hospital is provided. Customers can obtain over 1,000 various tips comprehensively considering seasons, indoor and outdoor conditions, and children's health status.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
