Free Home IoT Support for Families of Second Yeonpyeong Naval Battle Casualties

LG Uplus is providing eight representative Home IoT services free of charge for three years to the families of six service members who died in action during the Second Yeonpyeong Naval Battle.

LG Uplus, marking the month of patriotic commemoration and veterans' honor, stated its purpose to respect the noble sacrifice of service members who died in the Second Yeonpyeong Naval Battle while dedicating themselves to the nation, and to provide free support for three years so that bereaved families can enjoy convenient and safe living.

LG Uplus has deep ties with the military. It is providing "public mobile phones for soldiers' incoming calls," which allows service members in barracks common areas throughout the military to receive calls from family and relatives during designated hours.

From January 30, 2016, for a total of three years, LG Uplus has taken the lead in improving the living welfare of service members by providing free support for approximately 45,000 public mobile phones for all military branches and related charges, as well as establishing and maintaining communication repeaters to enhance call quality and other free support valued at approximately 60 billion won in total.

Yun Doo-ho, father of the late Major Yun Young-ha, a Second Yeonpyeong Naval Battle veteran, said, "I will be able to use IoT services I had always wanted to try, which will be very helpful for family life," and added, "I am grateful to LG Uplus for remembering and honoring the Second Yeonpyeong Naval Battle veterans."

The Second Yeonpyeong Naval Battle occurred on June 29, 2002, at 10 a.m., one day before the final day of the FIFA World Cup, at sea 3 miles south of the Northern Limit Line (NLL) and 14 miles west of Yeonpyeong Island in the West Sea. It was a naval battle between South and North Korean warships that took place in the same area three years after the First Yeonpyeong Naval Battle occurred in 1999. Initially called the "West Sea Clash," it was elevated to the "Second Yeonpyeong Naval Battle" in April 2008.
